Road and rail movement in Tripura was disrupted after three surrendered militant organisations began a 72-hour statewide strike over alleged delays in implementing a 2024 tripartite peace agreement.
The National Liberation Front of Tripura (Original), NLFT (PD) and All Tripura Tiger Force surrendered after signing the agreement with the Union and state governments. They are seeking implementation of a six-point charter, including rehabilitation measures.
Police reported a blockade of the Assam-Agartala national highway at Hataikotor and deployed additional forces. The organisations had staged a similar blockade in June before withdrawing it following assurances from the state government.
The protest coincides with talks in New Delhi involving the Union Home Minister, Tripura Chief Minister and Tipra Motha leadership on the tripartite agreement and constitutional safeguards for indigenous people.
Repeated blockades can erode confidence in a peace process even when violence does not resume. Credible implementation requires a public milestone framework covering rehabilitation, livelihoods, legal commitments, indigenous rights, grievance resolution and independent verification of progress.
