Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate or lay foundations for development projects valued above Rs 35,000 crore in Gujarat and Maharashtra on September 8 and open the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai.
The programme includes three sections of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor covering 326 route kilometres and developed at a reported cost above Rs 20,700 crore: Sanand North-Makarpura, New Umbergaon-New Saphale and New Saphale-JNPT.
Direct freight-corridor access to Jawaharlal Nehru Port is intended to accelerate export-import cargo, connect industrial centres with ports, reduce logistics costs and ease pressure on Mumbai’s rail network. The government said commissioning would make the dedicated-freight-corridor network operational along its full length.
Other announcements include three railway projects spanning 329 kilometres and costing above Rs 9,700 crore, national-highway works of around Rs 1,780 crore and Gujarat government projects valued near Rs 2,600 crore.
The Global Fintech Fest runs from September 8 to 11 under a theme covering agentic AI, tokenisation, quantum technology and inclusive finance. Project outcomes should be evaluated through completion, freight volumes, travel and logistics savings, safety, cost control and measurable adoption rather than inauguration value alone.
