Three people were hospitalised after exposure to a hazardous chemical that spilled from a moving tanker at Khupri village in Wada taluka of Maharashtra’s Palghar district.
Police said the tanker had emerged from a nearby company and leaked part of its load while crossing road bumps. The affected individuals reported suffocation, respiratory discomfort and eye irritation but were stated to be stable and out of danger after treatment.

Police and emergency teams responded to the site, covered the spilled substance with mud as an immediate control measure and moved the tanker away from the traffic route.
Officials from the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board inspected the location to assess the leakage and identify corrective measures. Police are examining whether negligence contributed to the incident.
The incident highlights the need for verified chemical identification, compatible neutralisation methods, tanker-sealing inspections, driver emergency training and rapid public warnings. The investigation should establish the substance involved, quantity released, road and vehicle conditions, transport documentation and responsibility for remediation and medical follow-up.
