Schools, colleges and universities across Uttar Pradesh will host programmes designed to help students understand the electoral process, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said during a two-day visit to Lucknow.
The initiative comes ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election scheduled for early 2027 and is intended to explain the transparency and functioning of elections to young citizens.
Kumar said Booth Level Officers were the foundation of the democratic process and would be an important focus of his visit. He is scheduled to interact with around 500 officers from Lucknow and adjoining districts.
He will also meet students at Colvin Taluqdars’ College and attend a regional conference on Electoral Literacy Clubs 2.0 and ECINET at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.
The Electoral Literacy Club programme was launched in 2018 under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation initiative. Its revised version is intended to make electoral education experiential, digitally enabled and active throughout the academic year.
Further regional conferences on Electoral Literacy Clubs 2.0 and ECINET are planned in Meerut and Varanasi.
Year-round electoral education could improve registration awareness, informed participation and understanding of election administration among first-time voters. Credibility will depend on politically neutral content, accessibility across government and private institutions, transparent digital tools and measurable learning outcomes rather than event-based outreach alone.
