The Chhattisgarh government has signed two memoranda of understanding to expand the use of geospatial technology and integrated logistics data under the PM GatiShakti framework.
The agreements with the Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics-National and National Logistics Data Services Limited were signed on August 20.
They are intended to improve infrastructure planning, identify connectivity and logistics gaps and create stronger conditions for investment and sustainable economic growth.
The agreements were concluded during the PM GatiShakti and LEADS 2025 Dissemination Workshop, organised jointly by the state Commerce and Industries Department and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the platform was strengthening data-driven decision-making and enabling the state to align infrastructure development more closely with industrial and economic requirements.
More than 35 state departments have been onboarded onto the platform. The state has mapped 41 mandatory data layers and more than 600 additional layers, while developing 45 use cases and 30 planning tools.
Current applications include GIS-based identification of road accident black spots, mapping villages with inadequate banking access and optimising bus routes under government schemes.
The state has also reported the installation of around 600 mobile towers to improve connectivity at tourism locations and the finalisation of 700 acres in Nava Raipur under the Bhavya Scheme.
Chhattisgarh was recognised as a high performer among landlocked states in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade’s LEADS 2025 assessment.
The Forest Department’s Gaj Sanket application, designed to reduce human-elephant conflict, provides another example of geospatial information being used for location-specific public-policy decisions.
The latest agreements could improve interoperability between departmental datasets and strengthen project monitoring. Their practical value will depend on data quality, regular updating, institutional adoption and the ability of departments to convert mapped information into timely decisions on the ground.
