The Union government has approved a proposal by the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University at Fursatganj in Amethi to expand its aerospace activities over an additional 500 acres.
The proposal has been forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh government with a direction to make the required land available, university Vice Chancellor B. N. Singh said.
Singh said a land survey was under way and that a centre of excellence would be developed after the state government transfers the site to the university.
He said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had assured him during a recent meeting that the land would be provided soon.
The planned expansion includes advanced laboratories, research centres and supporting infrastructure for higher education, research and innovation in aviation, aerospace and allied disciplines.
The university has prepared a development model to increase its student strength from the present 595 to about 17,000 by 2033. It is also working towards granting affiliation to aviation-related institutions across India.
Established in 2013 under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the Rajiv Gandhi National Aviation University is the country’s only central university dedicated exclusively to aviation and aerospace education.
The scale of the proposed expansion indicates an effort to develop a larger national ecosystem for aviation education, technical research and specialised workforce development. Its implementation will depend on timely land transfer, infrastructure funding and the university’s ability to build academic and industry partnerships.
