Cement manufacturers are considering an increase of Rs 30 to Rs 40 per 50-kg bag in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, according to dealer feedback cited in the source report.
If implemented, the proposed revision would amount to roughly 10 per cent. A-category cement priced near Rs 285 could move to about Rs 315, while B-category material at around Rs 250 could rise to approximately Rs 275, although changes may vary by brand and category.
The proposed rise is sharper than the approximately Rs 10-per-bag increase reported in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka during August. The industry had already raised prices by around Rs 15 per bag on average in the first quarter.
Packaging and freight costs are being cited as pressure points, while the festive season may give producers an opportunity to test whether stronger demand can absorb higher prices.
The increase remained a proposal at the time of reporting. Its actual effect will depend on company announcements, dealer inventories, regional demand, competitive pricing and the extent to which higher costs are passed to contractors, developers and home builders
