Infineon Technologies has announced an agreement to acquire Bengaluru-based C2i Semiconductors, a specialist in software-defined multiphase controllers and intelligent power stages for artificial-intelligence data centres.
The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of calendar year 2026. The companies did not disclose the purchase price or other financial terms.
C2i develops digital power-management technology designed to respond to rapidly changing electrical loads created by high-performance AI processors. Its capabilities include system-level power architectures and vertical power-delivery approaches such as substrate-integrated voltage regulators.
Infineon said the acquisition would complement its portfolio of silicon, silicon-carbide and gallium-nitride power semiconductors and support power-delivery systems extending from the electrical grid to the processor core.
The transaction will also add a specialised engineering team to Infineon’s global research and development network and establish a stronger centre of expertise for digital power technology in India. Infineon currently employs around 2,800 people in the country.
As AI computing raises rack-level power density, data-centre operators require faster control, lower conversion losses and greater stability during sudden load fluctuations. Software-defined power systems combine semiconductor hardware with digital control and algorithms to manage these demands in real time.
The acquisition strengthens India’s position as a design and research base, but its longer-term strategic value will depend on retention of C2i’s engineering talent, expansion of local intellectual property, integration with global product roadmaps and whether research activity develops into a broader domestic semiconductor ecosystem.
