The Maharashtra Food and Drugs Administration and Navi Mumbai Police Crime Branch have uncovered an alleged operation that altered manufacturing and expiry dates on packaged food products.
The joint action was conducted from August 24 to 29 at Sadhna Enterprises in Turbhe, where authorities alleged that original dates were erased, new dates printed and replacement stickers placed over ingredient and nutritional information.
Officials seized 4,942 cartons valued at Rs 75.21 lakh and unlabelled or expired goods valued at Rs 1.30 lakh. The products included snacks, beverages, noodles, soup and mayonnaise linked to multiple exporter companies.
Samples were collected in cases where required food licences and purchase documents were reportedly absent. The establishment’s food licence was suspended and an FIR registered against partners and associated exporters under the Food Safety and Standards Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The allegations remain subject to investigation and adjudication. Authorities should trace upstream suppliers and downstream buyers, test seized stock, preserve printing and digital records, verify brand involvement and establish whether products entered domestic or export distribution channels.
