Chief vigilance officers received 70,584 corruption complaints concerning government bodies during 2025, according to the Central Vigilance Commission’s annual report.
Of these, 64,905 were disposed of by December 31 and 5,679 remained under process. The pending total included 2,002 complaints older than the prescribed three-month investigation period.
Banks received the largest number, with 9,933 complaints, followed by the Railways with 9,381. Housing and urban affairs accounted for 6,531 complaints and specified local bodies for 4,834.
Other notable totals included coal-sector employees, finance, the Delhi government, petroleum, Delhi Police, roads and highways, the Home Ministry, defence, labour, insurance, telecommunications and steel.
Complaint volume does not establish wrongdoing and may reflect organisation size, public interaction or reporting access. Stronger analysis requires categorisation by allegation type, substantiation rate, disciplinary outcome, prosecution, recovery and time taken for closure.
