The Indian Navy has commissioned INS Nipun, its second deep-sea diving vessel, strengthening its capacity for underwater operations and rapid submarine rescue.
The vessel was commissioned in Mumbai in the presence of Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan.
Built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited, INS Nipun is 119.4 metres long and has a displacement capacity of 10,500 tonnes.
The ship can support diving operations to a depth of 300 metres and can also be deployed for humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief missions.

The new vessel expands India’s specialised maritime-support capability, but operational value will depend on trained diving teams, rescue-system readiness, maintenance, interoperability with submarines, realistic exercises and deployment coverage across both seaboards.
