New Delhi, August 14: Solapur Bioenergy Systems Private Limited (SBESPL) has secured the renewal of its operations and maintenance contract for Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s compressed biogas plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, an InfraIntel correspondent has learnt.
The contract, valued at approximately ₹15.46 crore, will remain effective for two years—from August 13, 2026, to August 12, 2028. This is the second consecutive term for which Indian Oil has entrusted SBESPL with the complete operations and maintenance responsibility of the facility.
SBESPL is a wholly owned subsidiary of Organic Recycling Systems Limited (ORSL), a BSE-listed company operating in the clean technology, waste management and decarbonisation sectors.
Under the renewed agreement, SBESPL will manage the day-to-day functioning of Indian Oil’s 200-tonne-per-day paddy straw-based compressed biogas plant. Its responsibilities will include plant operations, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, safety compliance and manpower management.
The Gorakhpur facility processes agricultural and organic waste, including paddy straw, press mud and cattle dung, to produce compressed biogas and nutrient-rich organic manure. The project is expected to support India’s clean-energy transition, reduce agricultural stubble burning and generate economic opportunities in rural Uttar Pradesh.
The renewal indicates continued confidence in SBESPL’s performance during the previous contract period. It also strengthens ORSL’s position as an operations and maintenance partner for public sector-led bioenergy projects.
The development comes at a time when India’s compressed biogas sector is receiving increased policy support. Building upon the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation initiative, the Union Government has introduced GOBARdhan as a unified national framework for compressed biogas development.
The policy framework seeks to encourage the sector through measures such as assured offtake, stable pricing, financial assistance, improved access to credit and pipeline connectivity. These measures are expected to attract fresh investment and accelerate the expansion of compressed biogas infrastructure across the country.
According to the company, securing the contract for a second consecutive term reflects the consistent operational performance delivered at the Gorakhpur plant and the continued confidence placed in its technical capabilities.
During the next two years, the company is expected to focus on operational discipline, plant safety, preventive maintenance, process reliability and uninterrupted day-to-day functioning of the facility.
The renewed contract will provide ORSL with recurring revenue over the next two years while expanding its portfolio of long-term engagements with public sector clients. It may also improve the company’s prospects of securing similar assignments as India develops additional compressed biogas projects.
