Morning showers lowered Delhi’s minimum temperature to 24.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday, 3.4 degrees below the previous day’s reading, as the weather office issued a yellow-to-orange alert
The India Meteorological Department forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature was expected to remain near 30 degrees Celsius.
Safdarjung recorded 0.7 millimetres of rainfall between 11.30 pm and 5.30 am and another 1.3 millimetres by 8.30 am. Palam recorded a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius, while Lodhi Road and Ayanagar registered 24.7 and 24 degrees respectively.
Delhi’s Air Quality Index was 59 at 9 am, within the ‘satisfactory’ category and lower than the previous evening’s 24-hour average of 71.
The limited overnight rainfall at several stations does not eliminate the possibility of localised intense showers. Lightning safety, drainage readiness, traffic management and neighbourhood-level monitoring remain important while the alert is active.
