Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has directed civic officials to improve waste collection, road and footpath maintenance, storm-water drainage and public safety after an early-morning inspection in the city’s eastern area
The inspection covered Horamavu, Banjara Layout, Agara Lake, Jayanthinagar, Ramamurthynagar and Kasturinagar.
Gowda reviewed door-to-door garbage collection, the deployment of civic workers and marshals, lake upkeep, road cuts, potholes, encroachments and ongoing infrastructure works.
Officials were asked to ensure daily household waste collection, prevent dumping in public places, remove construction debris and restore roads after utility work. The minister also ordered regular desilting of storm-water drains during the monsoon and coordination with railway authorities around Ramamurthynagar station works.
At Agara Lake, he sought removal of accumulated waste, action on any legally established encroachment and relocation of electrical panels considered a public-safety risk. Footpaths were to be kept clear for pedestrians.
Responding to demands for regularisation from pourakarmikas, Gowda alleged that around 30 per cent were not reporting for duty and said permanence could not substitute for performance. The claim requires workforce and attendance data; lasting improvement will also depend on adequate staffing, contractor accountability, equipment, grievance procedures and ward-level service metrics.
