The Jammu and Kashmir administration is accelerating the digitisation and updating of nearly 70 lakh land parcels to modernise revenue administration and create a verified database for integration with the Centre’s AgriStack framework.
Officials said more than 13 lakh rectifications had been completed after discrepancies were identified during verification and through grievances submitted by members of the public.
The Revenue Department is carrying out the exercise in collaboration with the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme.
More than 2,500 revenue field functionaries have reportedly received role-based access for data entry, verification and approval.
Accurate digital records could improve mutation, ownership verification, agricultural-service delivery, credit access, compensation and planning. Integration with AgriStack could also connect parcel information with farmer-focused digital services.
The scale of rectification indicates both the administrative importance of the exercise and the extent of inconsistencies within legacy records. Digitisation alone does not settle competing ownership claims or correct errors unless citizens have accessible verification and appeal mechanisms.
Implementation should therefore be monitored for mapping accuracy, audit trails, data security, consent, exclusion risks, dispute resolution and consistency between digital entries and legally authoritative records. Public access to correction status will be essential for building confidence in the new database.
