Three employees died and one was injured after a fire broke out at a steel factory in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district around midnight on August 21, police said.
The fire originated in the captive power plant of Maa Chinnamastika Ispat at Helal and spread through part of the industrial unit.
Four employees sustained severe burn injuries. Three of them died while undergoing treatment at a hospital, Ramgarh Superintendent of Police Mukesh Kumar Lunayat said.
The deceased were identified as Sanjeev, Vinit and Abhishek. The condition of the fourth injured employee was not specified in the initial report.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation. A two-member team comprising a factory inspector and the Chotanagpur deputy chief inspector was sent to the site, Chief Factory Inspector Manish Sinha said.
Eyewitnesses indicated that a large number of workers were present at the factory when the fire occurred, increasing the potential severity of the incident.
The investigation will need to establish the point of ignition, condition of the captive power plant, availability of fire-control systems, evacuation response and compliance with statutory safety requirements. Its findings will be important for determining responsibility and preventing similar incidents in high-temperature industrial operations.
